Tiger World is an animal conservation and educational center dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and preservation of exotic animals. It is a different kind of zoo. Visitors will be personally guided throughout the preserve learning about each animal providing an individual hands on experience. They will see the animals in a natural setting and have the opportunity to observe them running, playing, swimming, eating, and interacting with their handlers.
Tiger World's goal is to provide the best environment in captivity for the animals while also offering a stimulating learning environment for visitors. The intimate setting is a great place to bring family and friends to learn about the animals up close and personally.
There are a wide variety of animals in natural habitats including:
- Baboons and Bears
- Birds and Crocodiles
- Jaguars and Lemurs
- Leopards and Lions
- Lizards and Lynx
- Macaques and Monkeys
- Panthers and snakes
- Tigers and Tortoises
- and much more
Dr. Setzer at Tiger World
Dr. Setzer is the veterinarian who oversees medical care and treatment of all the animals at Tiger World. He spends a lot of time consulting with the owner, Lea Jaunakais, concerning the care of all of Tiger World's animals. Consultations are regarding issues such as nutrition (what to feed, when, and how much), housing and facility maintenance, and primarily the medical care of the animals.
Recently, Dr. Setzer performed vasectomies on a 650lb male tiger and a 450lb male lion. Other procedures he has previously performed include a tumor removals from a black Panther and spotted Leopard. He has vaccinated most animals at Tiger World against Rabies Virus, checks for intestinal parasites, and tests primates for Tuberculosis.
When funding allows Dr. Setzer and Lea are going to set up an on-site veterinary facility that will allow him to do more specialized procedures without having to transport the animals from their current location. With continued donations and community support, Tiger World will hopefully thrive well into the future.
